Privacy Policy for Norse Verses

Norse Verses is developed and operated by Lalancette Agence Créative (“Norse Verses,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Norse Verses mobile application and its related services.

1. Privacy Summary

Norse Verses does not require you to create an account. We do not ask for your name, email address, telephone number, contacts, photographs, precise location, microphone access, or camera access through the application.

Most reading information and preferences remain locally on your device. Certain information may be processed when you use advertising, community ranking, purchasing, or sharing features.

2. Information Stored on Your Device

The following information may be stored locally on your device:

Your preferred language;
Your favorite verse identifiers;
Widget appearance and refresh settings;
Home-screen and lock-screen display preferences;
Your private reading journal, including verse identifiers, reading dates, and reading streaks;
Your community-ranking preference and a randomly generated installation identifier;
Your local premium-entitlement status.

Your private reading journal and widget settings are not transmitted to our community-ranking service.

You may remove locally stored information by clearing the application’s data through your device settings or by uninstalling the application.

3. Community Ranking

Norse Verses offers an optional community ranking that calculates which verses are most frequently saved as favorites.

When community-ranking participation is enabled, the application may send the following information to our server at lalancette.org:

A randomly generated installation identifier;
The identifier of a favorite verse;
The selected language of that verse.

The application does not send your name, email address, precise location, full verse text, private reading journal, or advertising identifier to the community-ranking service.

Community participation is enabled by default and may be disabled at any time in the application’s settings. When you disable it, the application sends a request to delete the contributions associated with the random installation identifier and removes that identifier from the device. If the deletion request cannot be completed immediately because the service is unavailable, the application will retry later.

Like most internet services, our server and hosting provider may temporarily receive technical connection information such as an IP address, request date and time, and security logs. This information may be used to operate, protect, and troubleshoot the service.

4. Advertising and Google AdMob

The free Android version of Norse Verses may display banner advertisements provided by Google AdMob.

The Google Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect or process information such as:

IP address, which may be used to estimate general location;
Advertising identifiers, App Set ID, and other device or account identifiers;
Device and operating-system information;
Application interactions, including launches, taps, and ad views;
Diagnostic and performance information;
Information used for advertising, analytics, security, and fraud prevention.

Where required, the application uses Google’s consent platform before requesting advertisements. You may be able to review or change your advertising privacy choices from the application’s privacy settings.

Advertising services are not initialized for users whose premium ad-free entitlement is active.

Depending on your jurisdiction and choices, Google or its advertising partners may use identifiers and activity information to provide personalized or non-personalized advertising. Norse Verses does not sell personal information for money.

5. Purchases and Support Contributions

Norse Verses may offer a lifetime premium purchase and optional support contributions through Google Play.

Payments are processed by Google Play. We do not directly receive or store your complete payment-card or banking information. The application receives transaction status and verification information needed to activate a purchase or restore an entitlement.

6. Notifications and Widgets

If you enable lock-screen verses, Norse Verses may request permission to display notifications. These are local notifications generated on your device. The application does not use a remote push-notification account or transmit the notification text to our community server.

Home-screen widgets use locally stored verse and preference information.

You may disable notifications through your Android device settings.

7. Facebook Sharing and External Links

When you choose to share a verse on Facebook, the application:

Copies the verse and its reference to your device’s clipboard; and
Opens Facebook’s sharing service with the verse, reference, and Norse Verses product link.

This happens only after you select the Facebook sharing button. Once Facebook or another external service opens, its own terms and privacy policy apply.

The application may also contain links to external websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third-party websites and services.

8. How We Use Information

Information handled through Norse Verses may be used to:

Provide the application’s reading, widget, favorite, and notification features;
Remember your preferences;
Maintain your private reading journal on your device;
Create an aggregated community ranking;
Process and restore purchases;
Display advertisements in the free version;
Prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
Maintain and troubleshoot the application and its services;
Comply with applicable legal obligations.

Where required by law, processing is based on your consent. Other processing may be necessary to provide requested features, complete purchases, protect the service, or pursue legitimate operational and security interests.

9. Information Sharing

Information may be shared only as reasonably necessary with:

Google AdMob and its advertising partners;
Google Play and Google Payments;
Meta/Facebook when you initiate a Facebook share;
Our website hosting, infrastructure, and security providers;
Government authorities or other parties when required by law or necessary to protect legal rights, users, or the security of the service.

We do not rent or sell lists containing users’ names, email addresses, or telephone numbers.

10. Data Retention

Locally stored information remains on your device until you modify it, clear the application’s data, or uninstall the application.

Community-ranking contributions remain associated with the random installation identifier while participation is enabled. Disabling community participation initiates deletion of those contributions.

Aggregated statistics that can no longer reasonably be associated with an installation may be retained. Limited technical and security logs may also be retained for operational, fraud-prevention, legal, or security purposes.

Third-party providers retain information according to their own privacy and retention policies.

11. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information. Community-ranking communications use HTTPS encryption while information is transmitted.

No electronic transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

12. International Processing

Some service providers, including Google and Meta, may process information outside Quebec or Canada. Information processed in another jurisdiction may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction.

We use service providers only for purposes related to operating, securing, monetizing, or supporting the application.

13. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information, or to withdraw consent.

You may also:

Disable community-ranking participation in the application;
Review available advertising privacy choices in the application;
Manage advertising personalization through your Google settings;
Disable notification permission through Android settings;
Clear locally stored data or uninstall the application;
Contact us regarding a privacy request.

Because the community-ranking identifier is randomly generated and is not connected to a name or email address, we may need information from your installation to locate an associated record. Disabling community participation directly in the application is the simplest way to request deletion of those contributions.

14. Children’s Privacy

Norse Verses is intended for a general audience and is not designed to knowingly collect names, contact information, or account information from children.

If you believe that a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so that we can review and delete it where appropriate.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the application, its service providers, or legal requirements change.

The updated policy will be published on our website with a revised effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the application when appropriate.
